Exploration
Memory, repression and recovery
My podcast, Healing Childhood Sexual Trauma, dives pretty deep into the phenomenon of recovering fully repressed memories of child sexual abuse, and the complications that arise from such recovery: complications I've dealt with myself for five years or more.
That has made me fascinated by the nature of human memory. What causes repression, and how is memory recovered? And once recovered, how do you know what is actually a recovered memory and what is a figment of your fantasy?
I'm most interested in tackling this subject through the lens of sexual abuse, but also through other human experiences where memory is repressed, like alcoholic blackouts.
