The Fallacious Façade of Urban Business

2 min read

Cities thrum and throb with a façade of business. People pottering about. Moving from one planned activity to another on the ding of their calendar notifications.

Appearing busy.

Business offers a sense of self-import.

I am busy. I don’t have time for this. My time is precious. So I plan it all out.

Wake up at 6 a.m. Cold shower. Meditate. Yoga. Breakfast & coffee. Log on. Scroll. Meet. Zoom. Log off.

Drinks with friends.

Friends who wake up at 7 a.m. Cold shower. Gym. Breakfast & tea. Journal.

Plan the day. Plan the week. Plan the month. Plan the year. Plan life.

Crash & burn.

Plan a vacation. Plan a retreat. Plan a change of career. Plan the transition. Plan how you can teach others to not crash & burn. Plan how you can teach others what to do after they crash & burn.

Run, run, run. Away from the Pause.

Cloak the black Earth with concrete. Disconnect from the quiet ecosystems of Life below.

Replace them with louder ecosystems of business. Garbage trucks. Loud scooters. Delivery trucks. Ambulances. Fire engines. Airplanes.

Efficiently operationalized logistics. Marvels of modern engineering.

Quicker. Faster. On-demand. At the click of a button.

Lest you be left alone in the horror of the Pause.

The throbs of machines vibrating through the environment, creating discomfort in the inherently sensitive human body.

Handle the discomfort. Pour a layer of concrete within.

Coffee. Tobacco. Alcohol. Adderall. Melatonin. Ecstasy. Cocaine.

Productive when you want to. Asleep when you want to. Party when you want to.

Building the layer of concrete within, disconnecting efficiently from your felt senses. From the agony of your Soul.

Inner felt senses? Those are fallacious! Why would you rely on those, silly! Just Look At The Fucking Data™️ Crunch the data, make predictions. Does that data say it’s safe? Drown yourself in it. Does the data say it’s not safe? Drown it in the ocean.

An efficient, scientifically sound system.

Supported by busy, self-important urban individuals with degrees from fancy universities that are considered important by other busy self-indulgent urban individuals with degrees from other fancy universities.

A modern urban business façade. The building has large glass windows reflecting the cityscape, a sleek metal exterior with clean lines, and a prominent sign displaying the business name. The entrance features double glass doors with stainless steel handles. The sidewalk in front is bustling with people walking by, and there are a few planters with greenery near the entrance. The overall atmosphere is contemporary and professional, set against a backdrop of other urban buildings.
Image prompt: “façade of urban business” – I like that GPT picked a word that looks like “soreness” or “sorriness”. Poor sore bodies, in much need of rest and reconnection to the Earth.
